It cannot be too strongly stressed that the working rally is the backbone of The Pony Club. A working rally is one at which instruction is given and is open to all members of the branch. It may be either a mounted or unmounted rally. An unmounted rally is usually for horse and pony care instruction. One of its main objects is to encourage and improve the horsemanship and horsemastership of members, and it is by working rallies that not only these, but also other objects are best achieved. Rally is a fun, learning experience in which team members work together achieving organization, camaraderie, respect and many other positive accomplishments. Rally is similar to "Three Day Eventing", in that dressage, cross country and stadium jumping are participated in by the riders of the team. But rally is also judged on the organization of the team as a whole and inevitably their ability to work together to present a clean, safe, organized tack room, feed room and stable area. Riders and captains in rally learn to respect team-mates, accept responsibility for certain tasks and that by working together the competition becomes less stressful. Rally is an excellent introduction to stable management for pony clubbers. |
